Morpho risk

This material is for informational purposes only and is not exhaustive of all risks associated with trading Morpho. All crypto assets are risky, there are general risks in investing in Morpho. These include volatility risk, liquidity risk, demand risk, forking risk, cryptography risk, regulatory risk, concentration risk & cyber security risk. This is not intended to provide (i) investment advice or an investment recommendation; (ii) an offer or solicitation to buy, sell, or hold crypto assets; or (iii) financial, accounting, legal or tax advice. Profits may be subject to capital gains tax. You should carefully consider whether trading or holding crypto assets is suitable for you in light of your financial situation. Please review the Risk Summary for additional information.

Investment Risk

The performance of most crypto assets can be highly volatile, with their value dropping as quickly as it can rise. You should be prepared to lose all the money you invest in crypto assets.

Lack of Protections

Crypto assets are largely unregulated and neither the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) nor the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) will protect you in the event something goes wrong with your crypto asset investments.

Liquidity Risk

There is no guarantee that investments in crypto assets can be easily sold at any given time.

Complexity

Investments in crypto assets can be complex, making it difficult to understand the risks associated with the investment. You should do your own research before investing. If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Concentration Risk

Don't put all your eggs in one basket. Putting all your money into a single type of investment is risky. Spreading your money across different investments makes you less dependent on anyone to do well. A good rule of thumb is not to invest more than 10% of your money in high-risk investments.

Five questions to ask yourself

  1. Am I comfortable with the level of risk? Can I afford to lose my money?
  2. Do I understand the investment and could I get my money out easily?
  3. Are my investments regulated?
  4. Am I protected if the investment provider or my adviser goes out of business?
  5. Should I get financial advice?

DeFi tokens

Decentralised Finance ("DeFi") tokens are crypto assets built on decentralised blockchain technology for financial applications or protocols. Risks linked to DeFi tokens include:

Enterprise Risk

Interactions between multiple DeFi protocols create a situation where a vulnerability or breakdown in one protocol can trigger a cascading effect, affecting other interconnected platforms.

Technology Risk

DeFi protocols frequently depend on external data sources or oracles, and any tampering or inaccuracies in these data streams can result in a lack of trust and reliability in the protocols.

Regulatory Risk

Governments and regulatory bodies around the world can introduce new regulations or ban certain aspects of the cryptocurrency market, affecting its legality and viability, which could affect token liquidity and/or value.

Legal Risk

Certain tokens may be used for operating a decentralised exchange platform which may contain additional risks:

  1. The platform may allow users to participate who have not been vetted or verified and therefore expose the possibility that users are interacting with sanctioned entities.
  2. The platform may be accessible in jurisdictions where some or all the exchange activity should be regulated. If a local regulator deemed the platform activity to be in breach of local regulation, they may request cessation or termination of the service which could affect token liquidity and/or value.

Market Risk

Given their novelty, the evolving technology involved and lack traditional asset structure, valuing crypto assets can be very difficult or impossible. This means valuations are determined by demand that is at risk of manipulation in various ways.

Vault bridge liquidity mining is live on @katana ⚔️ Morpho and Sushi pools are now boosted with vault bridge rewards: > $135k+ from vaultbridge yield is now boosting morpho borrows + sushi pools increasing APY in-kind > Rewards track retroactively from Sept 19th > Rewards will show up in the UI early next week, but you can start earning now How does it work? Your VB assets on katana are a bridged representation of the assets being held on Ethereum - those assets are deployed into low-risk strategies via morpho on Ethereum and thus, they earn yield. That yield is transferred back to you via boosted Sushi Pools and Morpho borrowing. What strategies can I use? The best strategy right now IMO is the yvvbETH/vbUSDC borrow position on @MorphoLabs You can deposit yvvbETH (that's yearn vault, vault bridge, ETH) and borrow vbUSDC (vault bridge, USDC) By doing this you are being paid to borrow with the following rewards: vbETH vbUSDC KAT MORPHO So just so we're clear, in this respect, seeing as you're getting paid vbETH AND vbUSDC on a yvvbETH/vbUSDC position you are technically: Consistently increasing your collateral whilst simultaneously reducing your debt... All you would need to do in this scenario is re-deposit your vbETH to increase how much you can borrow - but there's no reason to repay your vbUSDC loan, because you're getting paid to borrow it in the first place lol. So save your USDC and pay it off when you want to unwind your position. That's the katana flywheel in motion, with DeFi at the core of all mechanisms.

If you missed $ONDO, look into $PLUME If you missed $RENDER, look into $ATH If you missed $LINK, look into $PYTH If you missed $SUI, look into $SEI If you missed $UNI, look into $AERO If you missed $HYPE, look into $INJ If you missed $AAVE, look into $MORPHO Am I saying that these projects are the next to take over the predecessors? Absolutely not, Web3 has proven time & time again that there is room for coexistence. But what I am saying is that many projects offer a similar type of utility. And in a bull run, liquidity doesn't discriminate. Don't overthink on the project, just understand where exactly they fit within the core narratives. Let capital rotation handle the rest...

Pendle maturity pool exceeds $6B. Watch out for volatility. In just 6 hours, Pendle pools, including USDe at $5.64B, will reach maturity exceeding $6B. While Ethena's TVL remains intact, Pendle, Aave, and Morpho's TVL is declining, with Pendle/Aave dropping close to $2B. Of course, the impact of asset price declines is a factor, but once Pendle matures and leverage starts to unwind, there could be significant volatility. If we speculate, - Selling USDe after unlocking PT to repay borrowed assets → some Depegging - Increased volatility in the implied APY of new Pendle Pools. As for Depegging, I believe that if there are no additional issues, time will resolve it. For Pendle, if one wishes to buy PT/YT from the maturing assets in new pools, placing a limit order below could potentially allow for a good purchase price if lucky. (In fact, PT is not expected to have much price volatility, while YT may be more suitable.)
