Altcoins (ETH + others)’ share of global perpetuals open interest increased in recent months, reaching ~56% in late August, the highest in over a year. At that peak, ETH held 38.58% of OI while BTC was ~44%, reflecting an “altseason” phase fueled by ETH’s price outperformance and broader risk appetite.
After the recent price decline and heavy liquidations, the altcoin open interest market share has decreased. ETH’s OI share is now 31.6%, and BTC’s has risen to ~47%. Meanwhile, SOL’s OI share has grown steadily, rising to 8.5% from an average of 7% in recent months.
